Introducing the "Tinned Fish" series by artist Melanie Christie. Melanie produces absolutely stunning beaded creatures, tackling the scaly, furry and fluffy with equal precision and panache. These aren’t caricatures or cartoons, but intensely lifelike beasties, down to the hair on a rhino’s ears or the delicate antennae on a grasshopper. She lives in California with her husband and two sons. After spending 12 years running the visual arts program at her local elementary school, she now spends most of her time creating beaded sculptures in her own home studio. We are honored to carry some of her "Tinned Fish" series at Hive because she is a gem of a human and incredibly talented and creative!

This series began as companion pieces to Herbert “Ketch” Pollack and has taken on a life of its own. Each sculpture is unique and built in a sardine can with a vintage key rolling back the top to reveal the beaded fish within.
