Pacific Northwest · Letterpress cards and linocut stickers
Coxswain Press is Taylor Cox, a letterpress and linoleum block printing studio in the Pacific Northwest. She fell for the presses as a graphic design student and never really left.
Every design is hand carved out of a linoleum block, inked, and printed by hand on vintage presses, one of them a 111-year-old, 2,000-pound Golding Jobber she bought in 2019. The name comes from crew: the coxswain steers the boat and sets the rhythm for everyone else.
"As an undergraduate student studying Graphic Design, I fell in love with the world of letterpress printing and block carving."
Why we carry them
You can feel a letterpress card. The ink sits down in the paper and the paper has some heft. Taylor's cards are the ones people stand at the rack reading, and the orcas and ferns on them are ours.
How it's made
From Taylor's own product notes:
- Greeting cards: 4.25 by 5.5 inches, heavy cotton paper, 111 lb cover, letterpress printed from hand-carved linoleum, blank inside, with a matching brown kraft envelope
- Stickers: 2.5 by 3 inch waterproof vinyl, weather-resistant
