Anna Brones
South Puget Sound, WA · Papercut art, prints, trays, and cards
Anna Brones is a writer, artist, and producer who cuts illustrations from single sheets of paper. She has written several books, started the food publication Comestible, and runs a newsletter about creative practice, but the papercuts are what end up on our shelves: ferns, kelp, moons, cabins, coffee cups, mushrooms.
Each piece starts as a drawing on black paper and is cut by hand with a knife, so the image holds together by what's left. The trays are printed in Sweden by Åry Trays on FSC-certified birch veneer, the kind of tray every Swedish household keeps around for coffee and a few treats. The prints are produced by Girlie Press in Seattle and signed.
"Matisse called it 'drawing with scissors' and I love that sentiment."
Why we carry them
Anna's work is quiet in the best way. A fern, a moon, a slow cup of coffee. The trays have become one of our favorite housewarming gifts, and the stickers are the small thing people add at the counter.
